It is indeed a delight for us to introduce the K. V. Pendharkar College in-house film society “THE BIOSCOPE BUGS”. The purpose of the film society is to add one more dimension to the extra-curricular interests of the member students – FILM APPRECIATION and enhanced understanding of the finer intricacies of filmmaking. The film society intends to screen the best of the movies not only award winning and entertaining but also imparting social message, with innovative direction, acting, screenplay, editing so on. The screening of the movie is followed by a critical analysis of it in the form of discussion.
The inaugural clap of ‘The Bioscope Bugs’ was on December 19, 2012.
The inauguration had all the Glam and Fame that befits the occasion. We were singularly fortunate that “The Bioscope Bugs” was inaugurated by none other than Dr. Kiran Phalke – the grandson of the father of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke. He made the day very nostalgic.
The charming & talented Model-cine artist Ms. Gauri Nigudkar graced the occasion. She introduced the audience with an insider’s sight to the lanes and by-lanes of filmmaking. She also actively participated in the post screening discussion.
It was an experience per se to listen to the students expressing them with authority in the post screening discussion of the inspirational inaugural movie “I am Kalam”.
In the year 2013-14 Bioscope Bugs organized ten days film festival beginning on Dec. 10, 2013, screening sixteen feature films. During the film festival Indian as well as foreign movies in different languages were screened. Five short films which were entirely produced by the students of our college were screened and the best short film prize was awarded to Sarvesh Breed for the film, “Love Beyond Words”.
Apart from these, the film society organized an intercollegiate quiz contest ‘Cine Quest’ for the first time in the history of the University of Mumbai. The competition was based on Indian Cinema and Cinema Personalities and was held on Dec. 13, 2013. The competition was won by a team from Pillai’s HOC College of Engineering, Panvel and the runners-up were from K. V. Pendharkar College.
In the academic year 2014-15, in addition to the regular screening of movies for its members, in association with Staff Academy, The Bioscope Bugs organized screening of Hindi feature films for Non-teaching clerical and non-clerical staff under the Staff Welfare Programme.
